Intern Eden here! As you can imagine, being a wedding planner you partake in lots of random errands and meetings. This week I got a taste of quite a few things that Katrina does! I started off my first day with 3 meetings; all very different. The first one was a meeting with her good friend and hair/makeup artist, Kymm with Who’s The Fairest and Christina with Jacuzzo Designs! It was a delicious breakfast accompanied by great conversation. Look forward to an awesome photo shoot later this summer! After our first meeting, Katrina and I headed over to the Mint Museum for a final meeting before Katie + Chris’ wedding. This meeting was one of the things I love most about planning events; seeing everything come together (pun intended)! Katie picked out the finishing touches, and her wedding will be before we know it! I can’t wait, it is going to be so beautiful. Last but not least on my first day we had a meeting over the phone with Melanie. Katrina and I are travelling to the Outer Banks on Monday to go see her venue! She is getting married at the Sanderling in Duck, N.C. in June.

The rest of our week consisted of various activities. We put a good amount of time into making table runners for Katie + Chris’ wedding this week. I never knew I could get so excited about a table runner looking nice! Not to mention, I am obsessed with the fabric. We ran a couple errands, including going to IKEA in search of picture frames. My first trip there ever… I will definitely be heading back to do some cheap college shopping. We also stopped by Polka Dot Bake Shop and met with Kelley, the head baker, to clear up some details about a cupcake display! If you’ve never been by Polka Dot, you are really missing out! It’s such a cute place not to mention the delicious desserts.

Behind all of this, Katrina was kept busy with 10 million other things. Good thing she can multi-task. Overall, this was a great first week with Katrina and I am so excited for what this summer has to come!

After spending an afternoon flipping through The Knot, and seeing the incredible spread on Katrina’s wedding, I knew I had to work with her. Therefore, I am so thrilled to say that I am working with Katrina this summer to begin my journey into the event planning industry!

My name is Eden Ellis. I am currently attending the University of South Carolina studying to graduate with a major in Tourism Management with a concentration in Event Management. I am apart of the few Charlotte born & bred, and I am happy to be back in the beautiful queen city for the summer doing something that I am growing to love more and more every day.

When applying to USC, I had to apply to a certain college, which also meant that I had to choose a major to start out with. I had no clue what I wanted to do. So I sat down and wrote down the things that I loved doing, and the things that I felt I was truly talented at. I have been in love with weddings for as long as I can remember. The thought of getting to work with people during the one of happiest time of their lives has always appealed to me. I looked into the Hospitality, Retail & Tourism Management School and found out that I could go to school studying the business behind event management. That’s when I knew that I was going to the right school. I have finally escaped the fear of sciences and math and found the joy in learning about what I love– catering to other people.

I always thought that being a wedding planner was too good to be true. Now that I am interning with Katrina, I am getting to see that this dream job is possible– and so far she has made it seem pretty awesome. I am so excited to learn all about the business part of event planning, and learn about the actual work that goes in with all of the fun. I am looking forward to writing about the things I learn from Katrina and the experiences I have throughout this internship! This is going to be an incredible learning experience, and I am going to take in all that I can!
