Adventures With Baby Hutch: Month 5 http://cometogetherevents.com/2014/04/adventures-with-baby-hutch-month-5/ http://cometogetherevents.com/2014/04/adventures-with-baby-hutch-month-5/#comments Tue, 08 Apr 2014 09:40:34 +0000 http://cometogetherevents.com/?p=5554 Sweet baby BOY. We are so excited to meet you. Definitely the highlight of the month–finding out the gender of Baby Hutch. Thank you again to The Schultzes for taking these photos and making this gender reveal VIDEO… what a fun moment to have on tape (tape? film? what is it called nowadays?)! I am loving how they are capturing this journey for us. Forever thankful.
We both were convinced on girl (Cheyenne hand-stamped the tags {above} right before we cut the cake as our ‘final’ guesses–boy were we wrong (pun intended))! We are so thrilled…so so thrilled. How great is the ‘bun in the oven’ cake that Amy and her team from Wow Factor Cakes made for us? How fun that she gets to know these little secrets before EVERYONE else! THANK YOU so much!
Top 10 thoughts of the month:
1. Wow! The movement! It’s crazy. I feel a lot already and have been for about 3 weeks now. It feels like a fish flopping around or more oddly…if you have ever had heart palpitations, I think it feels EXACTLY like that weird flutter sensation…it’s very cool and I love feeling it (yet, is still very surreal sometimes!). I even started seeing the movement from the OUTSIDE of my belly at 18 weeks!
2. Maternity pants=amazing. Period. (my mom also sent me a maternity dress–she’s the best around!)
3. I always thought ‘baby brain’ was one of those fake, made-up things–let me tell you, it is REAL. I have walked out of my condo, down the elevator, out to the garage and up to my car only to realize I have forgotten my keys 4 times now (Hutch does not think this is cute). I scraped the car up against a wall at Stagioni the other night…oops (Hutch also does not think that is cute…). Sent emails to the wrong people (work-related…not cool). I tell Hutch the same story 4 times… who knows what else!?
4. We had our ‘anatomy scan’ with the doctor and everything looked really great for our baby boy. Thank God! I am still so fascinated with health care and medicine (my background before events!), being able to see all 4 chambers of a heart, and the difference between the cerebrum and cerebellum in the brain on an ULTRASOUND of the baby–modern medicine is so great.
5. A very odd symptom that I never knew existed is extreme nasal congestion. Sometimes I wake up at night unable to breathe. Apparently this is normal…who knew?
6. I have an arsenal of stretch mark creams/oils that I use religiously. My dermatologist says they ‘might’ work (I’ll take it)…that, and keeping my belly out of the sun–hello 1-piece bathing suits!
-Belli Oil –this is probably my favorite as far as texture/smell goes
–Spoiled Mama Bump Gloss/Tummy Butter (an LRT recommendation!)
Palmer’s Cocoa Butter
Mama Mio Tummy Butter (thank you to Amy at Wow Factor Cakes — hold on.…feed me cake…give me stretch mark cream.…I see what you did there…)
7. Speaking of belly, mine is now hairy and hard as a ROCK. Thank you, sweet, little testosterone-filled boy.
8. I am still getting migraines at least once a week, praying those subside.
9. I started Prenatal Pilates. Hoping to stretch and tone for an easier labor and delivery! Molly is fantastic and am loving these sessions already!
10. I am already blown away by the love and generosity of so many for this baby. So grateful. He is one lucky boy. Here’s a little snippet of a few gifts he has already been spoiled with!
This past weekend we went to Mexico to celebrate Hutch’s brother and his new wife’s wedding! It was absolutely fantastic to see sunshine and get a little bit of color on my very, very pale skin. It’s been a long winter.  I invested in some 1-piece bathing suits (from ASOS and Tara Grinna) for our upcoming trips and the summer…definitely different than my ‘norm’ but it was nice to eat huge meals and go right on to the beach with out a care in the world! :)

And here is the 20 week bump picture. Things have escalated quickly around these parts (see 16 weeks HERE), within the last 2 weeks I really feel like I’ve ‘popped’. I feel huge already, and often find myself passing by a mirror and doing a double-take. Hutch also bulges his eyes out when he sees my belly pass by…he also laughs a lot.…hmm. My mom said she was ALL belly (and a big one at that!) with my brother, so I am bracing myself. I have gained 3 pounds–woohoo! Down a total of 6 lbs since pre-pregnancy (but truthfully I probably could have afforded to lose 5 of those lbs, so we might just call this a wash…). Will possibly take a poll on Instagram soon on when my belly button will officially be an ‘outtie’ — I’m thinking we’re no more than 2 weeks away.

What a special wedding this was to be a part of…for many reasons. 1. Erica has been a part of my life for quite a few years now –we first met as she did all of my wedding stationary, and then my branding for the company! It was so fun to be on the other side helping her with her wedding! 2. Erica has the kindest soul. Anyone who knows her knows what a soft and amazing person she is, and if you need proof–check out her website and read about all of the work she does with horses and children (and she is super talented to boot!). 3. Her vendor team was just the absolute best. Designing a wedding inside of a horse barn was only too appropriate for this sweet couple. Enjoy :)

Ya, we’re going to try to get back to that now that the baby formalities are over :). I have some amazing weddings back-logged all the way from August to share. First up, one of my favorite clients to date–Emily+Paul. Loved them. Too cute, too fun and too busy to plan the kick a** wedding that they wanted.  Both working full time and Emily in MBA school (smart and gorgeous), they needed help–so honored that they chose me. This wedding turned in to a full blown concert and the band even made me get up on stage at one point (embarrassing but hilarious). Thanks to my awesome vendors who nailed this vision and made the day absolutely perfect (80 degrees in late August–are you KIDDING?! This couple 100% deserved it).

What Will Baby Hutch Be…? http://cometogetherevents.com/2014/03/what-will-baby-hutch-be/ http://cometogetherevents.com/2014/03/what-will-baby-hutch-be/#comments Fri, 21 Mar 2014 12:29:11 +0000 http://cometogetherevents.com/?p=5537 He or She?
My final guess: GIRL
Hutch’s final guess: GIRL

So with out further adieu…

Baby Hutchins Gender Reveal from The Schultzes on Vimeo.

Thank you so much again to The Schultzes for capturing this special moment for us (which inevitably ended up in a video–Hutch’s favorite thing in the world now!!). If you can’t tell, we were absolutely SHOCKED. Thank you so much to Amy and her team at Wow Factor Cakes for the adorable ‘bun in the oven’ cake — it was absolutely perfect (and delicious!).

I defied a whole lotta’ old wives tales, I was convinced I was carrying a girl as:
–the heart rate was high: 154 BPM
–I am SICK-sick sick sick! Have still not gained 1 pound! (this was my biggest ‘girl’ indicator)
–my skin is terrible (they say girls take your beauty)
–I have been getting dizzy/lightheaded easily (my mom told me this happened to her when she carried me)
–Chinese Gender Chart said ‘girl’
–we have a boy named picked out and LOVE it–and can NOT agree on a girl name. so clearly, it would be a girl. :)

I prayed for a boy. I didn’t care about the gender–I’d love one of each eventually (God-willing). Hutch has longed for a boy since we have ever discussed children. He is always talking about walking to the new baseball stadium 1 block from us now (awesome!) wearing the Baby Bjorn with his ‘son’, teaching him to play sports, etc. etc.… I prayed every, single day for one. In my head, I thought it would be the greatest gift I could ever give  to him–a son. I wanted Hutch to cut the cake–I feel like as a woman I get to experience so much more being pregnant than he does (good and bad–ahem…cough cough push present…cough…). When he cut in to that cake, I was so happy (in general) but especially for Hutch.  I feel so blessed to be able to deliver him this amazing gift :).  After cutting in, we raced to the mall and hit up Janie and Jack and bought at least 7 outfits for our future son. We can not wait.

Adventures with Baby Hutch: Month 4 http://cometogetherevents.com/2014/03/adventures-with-baby-hutch-month-4/ http://cometogetherevents.com/2014/03/adventures-with-baby-hutch-month-4/#comments Thu, 06 Mar 2014 16:38:33 +0000 http://cometogetherevents.com/?p=5505 Well that was fast. Another month down. Best things about month 4: I’m FINALLY regaining normalcy in my life. I can eat again, I’m not falling asleep mid-convo while sitting up and I can do more than 1 thing a day with out feeling completely burnt out. 2nd trimester–so far so good.

Top 10 thoughts of the month:
1. Morning sickness is a lie–that stuff lasts all day/night. I have good days and bad days with this now. The last two have been bad. Here’s hoping for a better tomorrow. They say if you’re sick it’s a good thing because the body is really taking to the pregnancy. Silver lining?
2. Not everyone is blessed with amazing skin and hair during pregnancy. I’ve developed facial acne. Heading to Charlotte Plastic Surgery next week for an Oxygen Facial. Fingers crossed.
3. You pee every 20 minutes. It’s fun (no it’s not).
4. Society LOVES a pregnant lady, and you are treated accordingly.
5. You wake up all night to pee (see #3).
6. Some people (me) get these really fun things called Round Ligament Pains — and I am now terrified to sneeze.
7. You really will grow out of your normal clothing, I’ve officially embraced Bella Bands. Will probably be using these post-pregnancy, especially for big meals. For some reason I’m avoiding buying actual maternity clothing…
8. People really, really like to see your bump. It’s fascinating.
9. I have felt slight movements and it feels like popcorn popping inside of your belly. Super cool.
10. I think I’m having a girl. Hutch is hoping for a boy. We’re both praying for healthy :). The baby was NOT cooperating in the ultrasound this morning (our doctor said he/she was literally in the worst possible position to see the gender. Perfect.)

This month we were supposed to go to Tampa for a dear friend’s wedding but got snowed in by #snOMG. Instead, we headed to Shower Me With Love to test-drive strollers. Hutch was so pumped (note: sarcasm). After I almost fainted in the store (had to strip out of my clothing and lie down on the ground–pregnancy/feeling overwhelmed), we landed on the Bugaboo Chameleon. We needed 1 stroller that could do it ALL. We live in a 1200 square foot condo and don’t have room for excess. Plus, it comes in orange–one of my favorite colors.
As Hutch was carrying it out of the store, I literally stopped in my tracks and had a ‘moment’–I could not believe we just bought a baby stroller. Then I frantically begged Hutch to take me to PF Chang’s to eat –there is no desperation like a pregnant girl’s when she’s hungry.
After lunch, we continued our baby crusade next door at Restoration Hardware and took advantage of a 20% sale — so we purchased 2 cribs. One for boy, one for girl. We delayed delivery so we can cancel one of them once we find out the gender.
This is the crib for the little girl–I love the tufted sides.
And here is the boy crib! Can’t wait to see which one we’re going to need :). Then we went and test drove cars, since we’ll need a bigger one for our expanding family. I hate car shopping–I’m leaving that up to the CFO. Tagging out.

Later in the month I flew to Paris to plan my best friend’s wedding. She couldn’t come because she couldn’t take any more time off of work, so it was just me and the bump crossing the pond to hang out with her parents.
Here is Baby Hutch’s first flight over to Paris. My flight attendant was so nice to make sure I had enough food/water the entire flight over. I had to pass on the champagne upon boarding (that was rough!) so he very kindly made me a sparkling water spritzer. The flight over was totally fine, nothing different than usual–thank goodness!
I was so busy the entire time I was in Paris– all work and very little play. The only pictures I got of any famous monuments were during drive-bys on the way to the next meeting.
The final afternoon of my quick trip, we had time to play. Margaux’s mom graciously took me maternity/bebe shopping. I got quite a few outfits for me, but nothing for Baby Hutch. The clothing over there is so cute–it would have been dangerous had I known the gender! Playing with the faux-bump pillows was quite funny and Margaux’s mom insisted on taking pictures of me with it. I really can’t believe I am going to get that big!

I also officially booked The Duke Mansion for my baby shower–I couldn’t have thought of a more perfect setting to celebrate a new little lady/little man. Such a classic venue. Truth be told, this was actually the very first baby-related thing that I did. True event planner form.
Now for the real reason why girls read pregnancy blogs (I’m on to you, all of you). You want to see how big I’m getting–let’s just all be honest and get in the trust circle here. Here is a picture of me at 16 weeks–finally feeling like my belly is ‘out’ a little bit :). I have lost 9lbs, but gained 2lbs in Paris but then lost 2lbs when I got back–so down a total of 9lbs. My belly is obviously growing, so I’m not concerned (yet). I have a very short torso and am feeling like my belly is making an appearance sooner than I had thought! Thankful for it either way–it’s definitely weird to look down and see it, but I’m starting to love it. :)

Adventures with Baby Hutch: Month 3 http://cometogetherevents.com/2014/02/baby-hutch-month-3/ http://cometogetherevents.com/2014/02/baby-hutch-month-3/#comments Wed, 05 Feb 2014 12:00:28 +0000 http://cometogetherevents.com/?p=5229 Thank you for all of the very kind thoughts, well wishes and prayers that we’ve received since announcing! We’re feeling very overwhelmed with love and support–thank you! I’ve received a TON of the same questions from all sorts of people so I wanted to update you all in one place (if you care!). If you don’t…just come back another day. :).

1. How did you find out?
I actually wrote this the day we found out so I could remember EXACTLY how I was feeling…because it was weird.
Woah. It’s December 13, 2013 (Friday the 13th!) and I realized that I was 4 days “late.” I was too busy to even notice. My sweet CFO urged me to go take a pregnancy test. I was in my pajamas, it was 7:30am, I looked like death warmed over coming off a huge photo shoot for Charlotte Wedding Magazine the day before.…and I was taking a test to pacify my husband. I dragged my feet to the bathroom and fought with him the entire time about how there was NO way that I was pregnant, and this was a waste of time/money on the test. We weren’t even trying and I have NO symptoms. Before I even had time to put the stick on the counter-BOOM. 2 lines. We were pregnant. No way. No no no, that can’t be. I was shaking. 3 more tests. Pregnant. Pregnant. Pregnant.
I had one of my sweet brides flying in from NYC for 2 days FULL of vendor meetings so I needed to pull.it.together. The morning was a whirlwind of emotions–all good ones. But, I am scared. Terrified. What have I been doing for the past 5 weeks? Have I been healthy? I did the math…We conceived IN London, (English baby–makes sense since Kate {the princess} and I were married just 24 hours apart. We’re kindred spirits. AND my mom is from there :)!) where we were eating everything in sight and drinking wine–but my doctor has assured me that it’s OK–the embryo was too young (not even attached to me yet). Speaking of doctor, he was the first call that I made. After telling him that I needed to come in for confirmation for a pregnancy test (is that even a thing?!), he told me that I’d come in around 8 weeks for my first ultrasound. Woah…an ultrasound? This was all happening so fast.
Next, I emailed my mom (panicked) and told her to call me when she had a second. 7:30am her time (9:30 my time) the phone rang. “So…I’m pregnant.” She was thrilled, reassured me and got me excited for what’s to come. She is a doctor, and laughed when I kept repeating that I couldn’t believe it happened with out us ‘trying’ (feeling SO blessed!), and also told me all of the ‘next steps’ I need to be taking.

The CFO left for work and called me on the way (we live 2 blocks away so it’s not far) to tell me he was FREAKING OUT (in a good way!). We met for lunch around 11am and just kind of stared at each other, we didn’t say much. We kept looking at each other and would burst out laughing (is this normal?). Really, we’re in a state of shock at this point. I went to my client meetings and tried to remain as calm as possible and went about the rest of the day talking about linens, flowers and cake (speaking of cake, I had a cake tasting that afternoon and was giggling on the inside about how funny it was that as my first day knowing I was pregnant I got to inhale cake!). That night, we went to Luce to celebrate, and it was my first dinner out on a Friday in a LONG time where I couldn’t have a glass of red wine. Oh the pain. But, I ordered ravioli and didn’t feel a twinge of guilt–baby needs food!

2. Will you be doing weekly pregnancy updates?
No…I know for a fact that I’d never keep up with them and I surely don’t have enough going on weekly to be remotely interesting, believe me! :) As much as I’d love to be diligent enough to keep a pregnancy journal, I know I just won’t do it. I’ll probably do monthly check-ins about things I’d normally blog about–but now, with a bump :).  We are far away from so many friends and family that I do think some updates would be fun. I have a lot of travel planned between now and August so stay tuned for that (baby hutch has already been to Houston, TX–yeehaw!). For more up-to-date happenings, follow me on Instagram.

3. Will you find out the gender?
YES! And no, I have no clue what it is! Just praying for healthy! I have a feeling it’s going to be a boy or a girl.…

4. When are you due?
August 19th–my English grandmother’s birthday :) Hutch is May 19th and I am September 19th–so that’d be kind of fun.

5. Will you tell people the name?
NO! :) Not until it’s born!

6. How have you been feeling?
TERRIBLE! I have lost 7 pounds due to the inability to eat anything, I am not glowing, feel constantly hungover and I have a case of narcolepsy like nobodies business (seriously, I can fall asleep anywhere!). My sweet husband has been a saint through it all. God bless him. Hoping for a better 2nd trimester!

7. “Oh…that’s why you canceled Thailand!“
No, it’s really not! We’re going in April–hello baby moon! Hutch really, really did have to work–real talk. It worked out kind of nicely because I was NOT feeling my best over Christmas :). We cut out the elephant riding due to doctors orders, but we’re pumped for the rest of the adventure to come!

8. How did you tell your family?
Well…if you read above you know how I told my mom (cute, right?). She promised to keep her lips sealed so we could tell my dad in person! We bought a onesie that said “I love my grandparents” on it for when my dad got in to town for the holidays. I came back from a wedding I had in Raleigh on December 22nd (my parents flew in the 21st) and handed my dad a wrapped gift. He thought it was a doo rag to wear while on his motorcycle (see picture below circa Kappa Delta Daddy/Daughter weekend 2008).
He opened it up and was in complete shock and joy–hugged me and then Hutch! I wish I had it on video, it was pretty cute. We did a similar thing on Christmas Eve when my brother and sister-in-law came over–using the “guess what?” onesie. Then…I slept through the rest of the holidays not eating a thing–ugh, misery! A few weeks later, we told Hutch’s parents over Facetime (with the same “I love my grandparents” onsie–got a lot of use out of that!) and Hutch called to tell his siblings last weekend. Everyone is over joyed! :)
This picture below is literally how I spent my holidays (sleeping in front of warm fires/barely eating all of the delish food). Not going to Thailand turned out to be a blessing in disguise as we were able to celebrate this special time with my parents, brother and sister-in-law.
9. Was it planned?
Ummm…‘kind of’. Not AS quickly as it happened but we’re not complaining. Feeling beyond blessed!

10.  “OMG are you dying with out SUSHI?!” (I am an addict)
My doctor told me I can still eat it as long as it’s not tuna (and other mercury-filled fish). SO happy to hear this–now I won’t starve to death, don’t worry! Salmon sashimi-nom.

11. Will you move to the ‘burbs?
Nope! We’re staying Uptown! City babe!

12. What about your weddings this year??
Thank God–it worked out perfectly. I have no weddings in August or September (compared to last year I had 6!) and will be ready to roll for October. I purposefully only took a limited amount of weddings this year in hopes to get pregnant. It has been very hard saying ‘no’ but I know I will be very thankful when the time comes!

13.  The Announcement Video — did that take forever?
Actually, from start to finish, it probably took 2 hours (from unloading all of those props to leaving). When I told Cheyennne of The Schultzes that I was pregnant, she immediately said “can we shoot your announcement photos? Just say yes.” Um.…yes! Only problem was, I had never even given a thought of doing announcement photos. In true event planner form, my mind went in to over drive and I wanted to do something ‘different.” I went with the idea of showing the ‘story of us’–how we met, getting engaged, the wedding, our jobs, traveling, Ollie+Otto and of course our next adventure! The Schultzes were so nice to offer to shoot it 1. at all and 2. in their home where they have two children of their own. As we unloaded the car, the kids went down for naps and we got to work. Between brainstorming how to shoot this (you guys, they’re so creative/talented I can’t even tell you), shooting and cracking up (and me attempting to nap standing up) we had such a fun time. What an amazing keepsake they created for us…it will be so fun to have 20 years from now to show the kid. And, it was just so fun–we didn’t take ourselves too seriously! I can not recommend enough doing something special to announce and can not even begin to recommend The Schultzes enough–until I’m blue in the face!

And I think that’s it! Thanks for the continued well wishes! I’ve heard that this had been done a few times before around the world, so we’re going to just enjoy the ride. :)
